Can a Singaporean get a Credit Card in Malaysia?
Yes, of course. But …it is not given out like free samples, and is usually much easier to get if linked to a mortgage on a house loan or business account. The same sort of rules and penalties apply to late payments and service fees as you have endured at home. There also, of course, Rewards for loyal spending with that particular credit card. I personally feel the Malaysian credit card bank is more lenient when it comes to exactly when payment is due i.e. if a holiday falls on the day of payment, you are permitted to pay up the day following. If you are Very Smart and earn in S$ and bother to keep up with currency exchange rates, you might be able to do very well with a credit card from each country and fiddle which to use when, specially overseas. However, keep in mind that the rate of exchange is the bank's official rate which is lousy compared with what you can get at the moneychanger.
